A sunny strip beside the driveway can look ideal for a raised bed in summer. In winter, it may receive road salt, plowed snow, ice chunks, snowblower impact, and meltwater from the entire hard surface.
Tefora raised beds are designed for outdoor use in wet, cold, and snowy climates. That does not make garden soil or coated panels immune to every winter placement mistake.
Why road salt is a garden problem
De-icing salt moves with splash, slush, snow piles, and meltwater. Excess salt damages soil structure and makes it harder for roots to take up water. It also exposes hardware and surfaces to a more aggressive environment than ordinary rain and snow.
Do not intentionally spread de-icer near edible garden soil. If salt use is unavoidable, increase distance and control splash.
Do not use the bed as a snow wall
Normal snowfall is broadly distributed. A plow or shovel can create a dense wet pile against one side. That uneven load is different from light snow settling inside and around the garden.
Keep the bed outside the regular plow line. Never direct a snowblower toward panels, rubber edging, trellises, or stored stakes.
Protect drainage during thaw
Snow piles can block patio drains and create standing meltwater. Before freeze-up, identify where water will travel in spring. Keep an open route away from the bed, building, and doors.
Think about roof snow and icicles
A bed below a roof edge may receive concentrated falling snow or ice. Gutters can discharge a large volume of meltwater into one corner. Move the bed or redirect water safely before filling; a full raised bed is too heavy to reposition casually.
What Tefora addresses
Tefora panels use a 0.6 mm galvanized steel core plus protective layers, bringing finished panel thickness to approximately 1.0 mm. Corrugation adds stiffness, while bracing rods support layouts needing additional resistance to outward soil pressure.
Those features are designed for normal outdoor conditions. They do not justify striking the bed with shovels, piling plowed snow against one wall, or exposing soil to repeated salt splash.

End-of-winter inspection
- Remove salty debris without pushing it into the bed.
- Rinse ordinary exterior dirt gently with water and a soft cloth.
- Inspect coating, seams, fasteners, edging, and braces.
- Check whether the base shifted during freeze-thaw cycles.
- Test soil if salt contamination is suspected.
The strongest winter protection begins with summer placement. Leave room for snow management, drainage, and safe access before the soil goes in.
